Hi! I’m Kahly, and I’m the owner and creative brain behind Thistle and Twig. You can usually find me in the back of the shop slinging flowers! I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about what makes Thistle and Twig unique.

Weddings have fascinated me since my first experience as a flower girl at the age of two. I spent my high school years paging through every issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides, and The Knot. During college in Boone, NC, I worked in a wedding gown shop learning alterations and custom design work. With a strong sewing background, I figured that’s where I was headed.

And then I got my first taste of working with florals! I was a tagalong assistant to a talented floral designer who gave me a whole new perspective on weddings. I spent the next few years practicing with weddings for my sisters, friends, and family members, having two baby boys, and settling into life in Morganton, NC. When my youngest son headed to preschool, I decided it was time to see if I could make this wedding floral thing into a legitimate business (getting a business license, paying taxes, and all of that fun stuff!). To my huge surprise and delight, it’s taken off.

We opened our first Morganton, NC shop in August of 2020, and have been full speed ahead ever since! We moved to our current location in January 2022 to have even more work and cooler space. I love that Thistle and Twig is part of Morganton’s vibrant, downtown, small business community. While I want to wow all the out-of-town wedding parties that we work with, it’s even more important to me to support our small town.

This whole thing has been a huge learning experience. To this day, I am still floored that people trust me with such a huge part of their wedding. I am so very honored to place my designs in brides’ hands for their walk down the aisle. As I look around at creatives who have been in their industry for 25, 30, and 40 years, I’m inspired by their ability to adapt and change with the trends while still maintaining their creative integrity.

We want to stand out from traditional florists and create unique and vibrant floral pieces. My passion, and my promise to you, is that Thistle and Twig will use the highest quality blooms, including local and seasonal florals, to craft distinctive, elegant designs that are customized to your needs and personality.
